Alana 22 months, Alex 5 months

A lot of new things, so I apologize for the lengthy write up.

Alex is now 5.5 months. He can mostly sit up on his own with minimal support. However, if he goes too far one way, he will still fall over. It usually happens when he is going for his toes, and he falls forward flat on his face. He gets really mad when that happens. He really loves looking around. He especially likes to track Alana and watch her walk around. Alana is very mindful of him, and gets upset if he is upset. She protects him and takes very good care of him. We notice this especially at school, when her classmates all come over and try to bombard Alex’s stroller. She keeps them at bay and makes sure they know that he is her brother. If Alex is crying, she tries to shake his stroller to make him stop crying. Alex is still not rolling over yet. We try, but he really hates tummy time.

Alana had a couple of funny moments lately. A few of them happened at school, so the teacher would write us notes. One time, the teacher said “ok time to go to the gym!” and Alana said “no gym!” and sat down. Alana is also starting to learn the word “mine”. Right now, everything is mine! We are trying very hard to teach her to share. Funny thing is, she is more likely to share with her brother, but there are still some things she does not like to share (like the ipad). She hates it when he tries to touch her ipad, but she tolerates it sometimes. I think she knows he only wants to touch it, and he doesn’t try to take it away from her.

Another note from school said Alana was conversing with her classmate. One of the children was crying and her classmate BFF Chloe said “Axel sad” and Alana said “What happened?”

My last funny moment was when Alana was sitting quietly near my breast pump. We observed her as she assembled the parts together, proceeded to lift up her shirt and placed the pump on her tummy. (exactly how mommy does it!) Next thing I know, she comes over to Alex and says “Addie, want some milk?” Based on the seriousness of her inquiry, I did not laugh. I simply said “look Alex! Alana made you some milk! Want some?” We thanked her and she was very happy.

This past weekend, Alana decided she wanted to ride on her bike with training wheels. She rode on it before, but I let it go and she fell over. She has been afraid of it ever since, so I was excited when she wanted to ride it again. We went for a few rounds on the driveway practicing pedaling. She was doing so well that I decided to let her go on the street. I held on to her when it was too steep, but I let her go at the bottom of the street and she just kept on going. She was able to pedal on her own! She was having so much fun. The neighbor was so impressed, he came out with a video camera and taped the whole thing. So we caught Alana’s first time riding a bike on camera, and she is not even 2 years old yet. Very proud parent here J Knowing how well Alana does everything, I think she just needs a few more practice rounds and she will be riding in no time.
